Choose Higher Ground

I am reading this book by Elder Henry B Eyring. The first chapter is called This Day. Here are my thoughts and excerpts from it.

 Chapter 1: This Day

The scriptures make the danger of delay very clear. Delay in repentance and in service. God gives each of us each day as a treasure that will require an accounting.
See Alma 34: 33-34

Amulek also warns us that if we procrastinate repentance and/or service the spirit of God withdraws from us. The scriptures are full of wise men making daily the choice to put the Lord and His will first
see Joshua 24:15

The Saviour is the ultimate example of everything and said
'I must work the works of Him that sent me...As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.' John 9: 4-5

How much more then should we be likewise doing the work of 'Him that sent us' and gave us all that we have and sustains us from day to day, and also shine forth the light of Christ that is gifted to us? Do we have any good excuse for not doing this?

Doing these things that matter the most will never be easy. It was not supposed to be. God's purpose in creation was to teach us and let us prove ourselves. But we can have confidence in Jesus Christ as our Saviour. He has the power to draw us to Him and to help us when the temptation is great and the test is hard.

Think back to when you have delayed doing what was right. It was because of 1 or both of 2 things:
1. You became complacent about what you had already done.
2. You became overwhelmed by the need to do more.

The Lord's love can draw you back into His service wiping away both complacency and discouragement. By choosing to serve Him we feel His love more and love Him more, and show this by loving and serving His children more.

He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
John 21: 17
